Developing User Autonomy in Lower-Limb Amputees through a Wearable Gait Biomechanics Tracking System

KINEX applies a mixed methods research framework to develop wearable biomechanical analysis systems. Qualitative community insights direct the iterative physical prototyping of parametric textile enclosures, refining means for continuous mechanical coupling of electromyography (EMG) and inertial measurement (IMU) sensors. By validating raw hardware outputs against an OpenSim digital twin, the project establishes accessible architectures for personalised remote rehabilitation, centring user autonomy, accessibility, and inclusivity of care.
Design iterations are in ongoing development alongside Chen Yang and Leslie Liu from the University of the Arts. A special thank you to Marissa Papaconstantinou (Canadian Paralympian, Track & Field Captain), Scout Bassett (USA Paralympian, Track & Field), Amy Richardson (ISPO), Noor Khazem (Specialist Technician, UAL), and Sophie Reynolds (Support Technician, UAL), and many others who have contributed to the richness of this project.
